The area and surroundings

Mediavalle del Serchio and Garfagnana are exceptionally green areas, where the culture and natural spirit have been preserved thanks to the existence of many parks and reserves. The Appennine and the Apuan Alps dominate the area and provide spectacular views.
Barga and Castelnuovo are the largest neighboring towns. Barga is the main culture center of Mediavalle area. A must see in this area is the Church of San Cristoforo with its beautiful architecture and paintings within; also nearby are the theatre of Diffidenti, Pascoli’s House. Additionally, every year this small town is home to Bargajazz which is one of the most important international jazz competitions in the world.

Castelnuovo is a splendid medieval country town. There is a wide variety of restaurants, bars, shops and there is a lively street market on Thursday mornings.
The area is also perfect for those who enjoy hiking, horse-riding, biking, kayaking on mountain lakes. Trout fishing is another wonderful past-time to enjoy here in the rivers and lakes of the area.
