The 5 most Instagrammable places on the Island of Elba

The Island of Elba is a veritable concentration of stunning landscapes and spectacular views that look like something out of a postcard. So, if you are an Instagram addict, there is no better destination for taking photos that capture likes. We have selected for you the five most Instagrammable places on the island. Although making this short list was by no means easy, because there are so many beautiful places that look like they were created specifically to be posted on social media.

The beach of Fetovaia

One of the most photographed places on the Island of Elba is the Fetovaia beach. Set in a beautiful natural environment, it offers the perfect location for taking spectacular and super Instagrammable photos. It is located in the south-western part of the island, about 10 km from Marina di Campo, and is protected by the lush, wild promontory of Punta di Fetovaia, which shelters it from strong winds. It is 200 metres long and up to 40 metres wide, and is characterised by a tongue of light-coloured sand of granite origin. Thanks to its shallow waters, it is ideal for families with children. Facilities for tourists are not lacking.

The Innamorata Beach

Another beach, which attracts Instagrammers from all over the world, is the Innamorata beach in Capoliveri, also set in an enchanting natural and scenic context. It is beautiful at any time of day, but with the lights of sunset it becomes even more fascinating. About 280 metres long and almost 30 metres wide, it is composed mainly of sand and small pebbles. Its name is linked to an ancient legend. It is said that in 1534 a young woman, in despair at the murder of her beloved by pirates, took her own life by throwing herself into the sea. On 14 July, the re-enactment of this legend is celebrated with a torchlight procession on the beach.

The Pauline Islet

Another of the most photographed, and Instagrammable, places on the Island of Elba is the Isolotto della Paolina, which stands opposite the beach of the same name, on the stretch of coast between Procchio and Marciana Marina. It is a large rock in the shape of a hillock covered with lush vegetation. It owes its fame and its name to Paolina Borghese, Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister, who loved this place, where she used to come to bathe and sunbathe completely naked. The rock, formerly called Castiglioncello, was already frequented in Roman times, as testified by some finds discovered on its summit. The islet can also be easily reached by swimming.

The Mount Capanne

Mount Capanne is the highest peak on the Island of Elba and is the perfect place to take beautiful panoramic photographs. From its summit you can enjoy a unique and breathtaking view of the Tuscan Archipelago. It is located in the western part of the island and is a true paradise for bird watching enthusiasts but above all for trekking lovers. To reach the summit, in addition to the numerous hiking trails that wind in all directions, there is also a cable car that departs from Marciana, specifically from Pozzatello. The cableway is open from April to October.

Borgo al Cotone

Among the most Instagrammable places on the Island of Elba, the small and picturesque Borgo al Cotone, the oldest part of Marciana Marina, built around the natural harbour, could not be missed. Set in an inlet between the sea and a rugged granite cliff, it is a succession of houses in characteristic pastel colours, stairs and details with constant references to the sea. Strolling through its alleys will feel like going back in time. The name comes from the Latin ‘Cos, Cotis’ and means cliff, series of rocks. It offers potentially perfect views for socials.
