The 5 most Instagrammable places in Tuscany

Are you an Instagram addict? Tuscany is a true paradise for photography lovers! It is full of fantastic places just waiting to be discovered and immortalised. We have selected for you the most photogenic places in the region where you can take spectacular and super Instagrammable photos. The likes are guaranteed!

Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa

One of the most classic settings in Tuscany, which attracts instagrammers from all over the world, is the marvellous Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. Included in the Unesco World Heritage List, it is home to four masterpieces of medieval monumental art: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Campanile or Leaning Tower and the Cemetery, also known as Campo Santo. Apart from the classic photos, there are many tourists who allow themselves to be immortalised in the famous shot in which, thanks to a small optical illusion, they pretend to hold the tower from the side of its slope. How many photos have we seen taken like this. To achieve this optical effect, all you have to do is stand at the right distance.

Viale dei Cipressi in Bolgheri

Another not-to-be-missed stop, popular on Instagram, is the Viale dei Cipressi in Bolgheri, which is even considered a national monument. A hamlet of the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri is one of the most charming villages in the region. The iconic avenue, which runs for about 5 km from the historic centre to the Oratory of San Guido, looks like something out of a postcard. It is lined on both sides by rows of dense, centuries-old cypress trees that cut the countryside in two. In all, there are more than two thousand of them and they date back to the 19th century. It was also mentioned by the poet Giosuè Carducci in his famous poem ‘Davanti a San Guido’. No wonder, then, that it is one of the most photographed roads in Tuscany.

Chapel of the Madonna of Vitaleta

Another of the most photographed, and Instagrammable, places in Tuscany is the beautiful Chapel of the Madonna of Vitaleta, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia. It is located on a slope of the provincial road 146 that connects San Quirico d’Orcia to Pienza. Set among rows of cypress trees and surrounded by golden fields, it was built, according to popular tradition, on the exact spot where the Madonna appeared to a shepherdess. Although small and remote, the church has become the star of one of the most celebrated landscapes in the world. A photo here is a must in spring or summer, when there are also hay bales to frame it.

Ponte Vecchio in Florence

Among the most Instagrammable places in Tuscany, the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, one of the most iconic and famous bridges in the world and one of the symbols of the lily city, could not be missed. The bridge, as it can basically be admired today, was built in the 14th century, possibly to a design by Taddeo Gaddi. At one time, greengrocers, fishmongers and butchers were gathered there. But when the Vasari Corridor was built, it was decided to give the shops to jewellers and goldsmiths, who still carry on a tradition as important as it is centuries old. The best place to take a photo is Ponte Santa Trinità.

Abbey of San Galgano in Chiusdino

And last but not least, the Abbey of San Galgano in the municipality of Chiusdino, which, although now reduced to a ruin, is depopulated on Instagram. Built in the early 13th century by Cistercian monks, it is one of the most evocative places of Tuscan spirituality. Of the abbey, which attracts visitors and the curious from all over the world, the majestic walls with the naves and some rooms are visible. A few steps away from the abbey is the Hermitage of Montesiepi, a small church where the mysterious sword in the rock is kept, which, according to legend, was thrust by Saint Galgano when he converted to Christianity.
